Military Family Resources


The students and staff at Lakota Local Schools appreciate the sacrifices made every day by our men and women in the military and their families. This page includes resources that may be helpful to families transitioning to our district.

Educational Support

Military Child Education Coalition: The Military Child Education Coalition’s work is focused on ensuring quality educational opportunities for all military children affected by mobility, family separation and transition.

Tutor.com for Military Families: Tutor.com program that provides on-demand, online tutoring, and homework help at no cost to eligible service members, civilian personnel, and their dependents.

10 School Tips for Military Families with Gifted Children: This Military.com article provides tips for parents to advocate for their children that have been identified as Gifted.

Emotional Support

Real Warriors: The Real Warriors campaign promotes support for service members, veterans and military families coping with invisible wounds.

 

Sesame Street for Military Families: This outreach tool helps military families, and their young children cope with the challenges of deployment and build resilience in times of separation and change. 


Family Opportunities

Activities & Resources for Family Resilience: Family and Youth Coordinators for The Ohio National Guard Family Readiness offers a collection of ideas to help keep everyone engaged and growing during these challenging times.
Stay Connected with Ohio Military Kids: Ohio has compiled a list of social media links to access events, resources and photos.

Financial Support

Caring Like Angels and Heroes: A local community fund that can provide one-time financial support for veterans or active duty and their families facing a financial hardship.

Child Care Fee Relief: Military families that depend on childcare to go to work, work from home, or work on education, can receive cost reimbursements up to $1,500 to eligible families.

Scholarships for Military Children: A total of 500 scholarship grants, each for $2,000, will be awarded for the school year 2020-21.


Local Support and Community

American Legion Post: Local American Legion, a patriotic organization that is working towards helpfulness in the community. 

Caring Like Angels and Heroes: A local community fund that can provide one-time financial support for veterans or active duty and their families facing a financial hardship.

Honor Flight Tri-State: Local (Cincinnati) organization that works to send World War II, Korean and Vietnam Veterans to Washington DC as well as celebrates them when they arrive home. 

Lakota East Veterans Network Twitter Handle (@LEHS4veterans): Student organization that supports, celebrates and partners with local veterans as well as the Tri-State Honor Flight program. 

West Chester VFW: Local Veterans of Foreign Wars post that supports Lakota Local Schools and its military community.

Yellow Ribbon Support Center: Local organization that collects and sends care packages to all military deployed and helps identify employment resources for returning veterans.

Military Support

Supporting Ohio’s Military Families: The Ohio Department of Education offers several programs to assist military families.

Military One Source: Military One Source helps with information, answers, and support for military life.
